Happy Anniversaries!

Two very special things happened on this day, March 26, in 2005.

First, "Rose", the debut episode of the regenerated Doctor Who series, was
broadcast on BBC. Producer Julie Gardner said that she was hoping against
hope that they'd be lucky enough to get 6 million viewers, but in the back
of her mind she expected it to be 3 million. She was completely shocked
when 11 million viewers tuned in to watch the moment when Rose Tyler's life
would change forever.

Second, something very similar happened a little closer to home. The very
first TimeGate occurred that same day! And just like with "Rose" ... we
were hoping to get 40 or 50 people, but Susan and I told each other. "If we
only get 25, we'll be thrilled. This is something we've wanted to do for a
long time and we're going to enjoy it no matter what." We were totally
blown away when *85 people* attended that very first one-day mini-con.

As you know, TimeGate has grown immensely since that day 6 years ago. Those
first few TimeGates were one-day affairs held in an Elk's Lodge. We had six
panels -- three Stargate ones and three Doctor Who ones. We showed videos,
we had gaming, we had special contests. We even had a few dealers at a
couple of them. But we had no guests at the first three TimeGates. And we
continued to grow. Pretty rapidly, in fact. Soon, we had to make the move
into a hotel and to a full weekend convention.

Since that time, our guests roster had really blossomed. We've had actors,
writers, script editors, and composers from both Doctor Who and Stargate.
We've also had authors, comic book illustrators, scientists, merchandisers,
film archivists, biographers, game designers and many more. And they've all
been wonderful!

And our audience has grown tremendously as well. We're expecting this year
to be our biggest attendance yet. A lot of that is due to the great guests
that we have booked, led by Sophie Aldred, Andrew Cartmel and Ben
Aaronovitch from Doctor Who (the Seventh Doctor era), and Mike Dopud from
Stargate Universe and the upcoming Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us from the beginning. And for
those of you that we picked up along the way -- thank you too for coming on
board and for continuing the journey with us. We are going to do everything
we can to make this year the best TimeGate ever.

Thanks, everyone. See you in May at TIMEGATE!!!

KT Dragon

Sorry if this isn't allowed, I will remove it if need be.

A one of a kind monicle was STOLEN from BRUTE FORCE LEATHER at DRAGON*CON 2009. You may view an image of the monicle at http://www.chronotrack.org

This is not just some ordinary piece but a one of a kind monicle that was to be in featured in a Steampunk Exhibit at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford this October.

There is a $200.00 reward for its safe return. $500.00 for information that directly leads to the arrest of the thief.

Remember, it is a one of a kind piece. There will never be another. If you see someone wearing it they are definitely connected to the theft and a felony.

If you know anything about this item, email hrathmihre@yahoo.com

Feel free to pass the word along, the more we talk about this the more likely it will be found.

The Carpets of Dragon*Con

Kristina and I came up with this idea of photographing all the insane (and mostly insanely UGLY) carpeting in the Dragon*Con host hotels. Really wished I'd gotten the Sheraton too, but we were only there Friday night, before we got the idea, so I missed it.

The Carpets of Dragon*Con

Later I'm going to do a proper blog post on this to share with D*C community and hopefully get more pics. Also want to make some of these pics downloadable as computer desktop backgrounds!

Looking for D*con Crash Space

I hope I don't bother any one by posting this here but I pretty much just found out I'd be able to go to Dragon*con this year so I'm scrambling around trying to find a place to stay.

I wanted to see if any one had any space available in any of the four main hotels or any of the near by hotels. I'm very laid back and easy to get along with and I'm fine with both smoking or non-smoking rooms.

if any one can help me out please let me know. thanks!

Roommate needed in Tucker, Ga

I hope that this is ok to post , if it isn't I'll be happy to remove it, thanks!

Hello, I live in Tucker, Georgia. I am looking for someone to share my 2 bedroom duplex with. Pets are welcome, but it may be too small a house for very large dogs, and we would have to fence in the yard eventually. Rent will be $400 a month which includes utilities. I am kink, geek, pagan and GLBT friendly, as well as pretty open minded in other subjects as well. If you would like more info, please contact me through my profile.

Angel Star and Queer Icon Andy Hallett dies

Clip from the article:

Andy Hallett, who starred as Lorne ("the Host") on the TV series Angel, died of heart failure last night at age 33, his longtime agent and friend Pat Brady told E! Online.

Hallett, who was a fan favorite, died at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles after a five-year battle with heart disease, with his father Dave Hallett by his side, the site reported.

[Mike Allgood - Dragon*Con Video Rooms] He was my favorite Angel character. I loved him on screen, I loved hearing him sing, and he was fantastic in person. He will be missed.

New Guests for TimeGate 2009

Please visit the website, www.timegatecon.org for more information about all our guests.  The con will be May 22-24 2009, Memorial Day Weekend, in Atlanta, GA.

SPACE: 2099:

If you're familiar with the re-released Star Trek: The Original Series seasons, with remastered picture and sound plus updated special effects, then you have an idea what Space: 2099 is all about. These are original episodes of the classic Gerry Anderson SF series Space: 1999 that have been lovingly restored and have been re-edited and given new special effects to bring them inline with modern television experience. I've seen some of the footage, and it really looks superb.  They've gone to great lengths to make 2099 look great.  Not only in terms of big flashy special effects, but also in minute details.  For instance, in one episode there's a fist fight on the moon surface, and one actor's space helmet comes undone and flaps open during a shot.  In the new version, the scenes have been digitally repainted so that the helmet stays shut through the entire shot.

The team behind Space: 2099, headed up by professional video editor Eric Bernard, is made up of industry professionals and graphic artists from Montreal, Switzerland, and the Isle of Man.

We'll be joined by Space: 2099 associate Rich Gedney.  We'll be doing two screenings, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, which will include some behind-the-scenes making-of footage, test reels of the new effects, "before and after" shots, one completed episode and trailers for further episodes.  We're also doing a Space: 1999 panel and will be talking a little bit more in depth about the 2099 project in that.

I'm pleased to announce a new author guest.  Well, technically, two of them.

Berta Platas and Michelle Roper have both been writing for a while, working on their separate projects.  Individually, they mainly write Romance.  But when they combine their talents, they become Gillian Summers, author of the Young Adult fantasy series the Faire Folk Trilogy.  The story centers on Keelie Heartwood, a seemingly ordinary 15-year-old girl who goes to live with her father following the death of her mother.  But her father lives a nomadic life as a member of a travelling Renaissance Festival troupe.  Not even close to what Keelie considers an ideal life.  But when she discovers her true heritage -- that she's half elfin, has faerie relatives and can talk to trees -- everything in her life changes.

Berta and Michelle will be participating in our four literary panels at TG.  They'll also be throwing a pre-release party for the third book in the series, which comes out mere weeks following TG.

As an added bonus, Berta is an avid Stargate fan, and she'll be participating in some of our Stargate panels as well.

New May 2009 OutlantaCon Guest - Joe Castro!

OutlantaCon is a GLBT science fiction and gaming convention that will be in Atlanta May 1-3, 2009.  We have added a new guest, Joe Castro.  The con will be equally focused on gaming and science-fiction/fantasy/horror - so be prepared to game!  Also, bring your computer because the hotel has free wi-fi throughout.

Joe is a filmmaker and make-up designer and is the mastermind behind such recent horror/gore classics as Terror Tunes, the Jackhammer Massacre, Driller and Shadow of Death. He was producer and director of The Legend of Chupacabra, writer and director
of The Young, the Gay and the Restless, and created special make-up on Another Gay Movie featuring Scott Thompson and Richard Hatch and Wishmaster 3: Beyond the Gates of Hell starring Jason Connery.

In addition to appearing on panels and in other programming, Joe will be giving a 2-hour demo of his craft at Outlantacon, transforming some attractive young man into a nightmarish horror-monster. Should be fun!

For examples of Joe's work, visit his MySpace: myspace.com/joemcastro

Vandiver Elizabeth Glenn, a former employee in the General Assembly Office of Legislative Counsel, was fired after she told supervisors she no would no longer come to work as a man.

More details.

Transgender woman sues Georgia lawmakers, supervisor

I know Vandy Beth.  She is a wonderful person and deserves much more than this.

I did not know that she was filing a lawsuit, and she must have known the attention it would bring to her.  her strength will be an example to many of us.

Asked whether she was prepared for the intense personal scrutiny that would likely accompany a federal lawsuit, Glenn replied, "It has been said that evil triumphs when good men do nothing. I'm not exactly a man anymore, but I'm not going to do nothing."

Thank You

Thank you to everyone who came to Gaylaxicon. Everyone contributed to its success.  I hope you had a great time and will look into attending next year in DC.

Oct. 2nd, 2007

Rooms at Gaylaxicon

Hey everyone,
Rooms have gone to $109 a night at the Sheraton for nights during Gaylaxicon.  The convention needs to have more room nights booked at the hotel.  If you book your room through their site, and mention in the special requests box that you are reserving for Gaylaxicon, the convention will get credit.  Also, it would be best to mention it again when you check in.  OW is planning to have a party Friday night before the Film Festival, and Gaylaxicon 2008 and Frolicon are also both having parties during the con as well.
So, find a roomie or two, and plan to stay downtown for a night!
Parking is cheapest, $3 for the day, at the Baymont hotel, which is behind the Sheraton.  Also, there are lots very close that are $5 for the day.  The Sheraton is on Courtland, one block over from the Hilton that was used during Dragon Con.
So, please support Gaylaxicon by staying at the hotel if you can, if only for a night.
Please email me if you have further questions at krisharter@aol.com
